Burnham Waters retirement community in Essex chooses Nobi’s ground-breaking Smart Lamps as their emergency response system

Burnham Waters retirement community in Essex, has chosen Nobi as the supplier for their proposed fall detection and health monitoring system. Nobi is a European provider of innovative technologies in elderly care, that launched in the UK and Ireland in September, 2022.

Nobi AI-Powered Smart Lamp

All residents will have the option for each room of their property to be fitted with Nobi’s innovative, AI-powered smart lamp, which detects and helps to prevents falls in older adults. Around a third of those in the UK aged 65 and over, and around half of all people aged 80 and over, fall at least once a year. Offering help as quickly as possible is crucial and can save lives. Whilst Nobi is optional for each resident, installation can be carried out easily and unobtrusively long after a property has been occupied.

Should a resident of Burnham Waters fall in their home, the intelligent lamp will detect this immediately and speak to the resident, asking if they are okay. In the event of no response or a call for help, the intelligent lamp is pre-programmed to alert their caregivers - in this case, Burnham Waters’ care providers. The smart lamp will also be able to open the resident’s door in the case of an emergency.

Identifying Accidents

Furthermore, at the resident’s discretion, Nobi’s smart lamps also have the ability to send an image showing where in the room the fall has occurred at the retirement community in Essex. These images provide care staff with important information to not only decide what assistance is needed immediately after a fall, but also to help prevent falls in the future. This image can be converted to an abstract figure to ensure privacy.

The powerful processor inside the lamp allows Nobi to constantly analyse images and detect the position of a body. Based on this, Nobi immediately knows when it’s dealing with a fall. The image processing happens in the lamp itself, and they don’t have to be analysed elsewhere. That way, your privacy remains guaranteed.

Aside from identifying accidents, however, Nobi also aims to help prevent falls as it continuously optimises its own processes. When a resident sits upright in bed at night, for example, the smart lamp will shine soft light upwards to gently illuminate the room. Then, should the resident stand up to go to the bathroom, it will illuminate the entire room.

The Need for Nobi

Speaking about the need for Nobi, co-founder and CEO of Nobi, Roeland Pelgrims said:

“We’re delighted to play a part in Burnham Waters and support the safety and wellbeing of it’s residents. Our technology gives families peace of mind that their loved ones risk of falling is minimised and that, if they do fall, the right people will be there to support them quickly. As the building work for Burnham Waters continues, we’re excited to see Nobi’s technology rolled out at such a prestigious development to help residents live a happy and safe retirement.”

Project Director of Burnham Waters, Ian Holloway, echoes this sentiment with the following statement:

“Our aim is for all residents to be able to live their lives without the need for stress or worry about what the future might bring. Our care providers at Burnham Waters are there to give everyone the security and peace of mind they’re looking for.”

The Nobi smart lamp has been carefully designed to feel familiar in every interior. It is unobtrusive, with no wearable or charging required; only a Wifi connection. This state-of-the-art technology will be supported by Burnham Waters’ fibre network, which covers the entire development, providing each resident with unlimited data and 1GB of internet connectivity.

Healthcare systems in the UK, like many other places, are currently suffering from an acute shortage of healthcare personnel. Speaking on this, Holloway goes on to say:

“Through the implementation of Nobi, Burnham Waters is able to support our care providers by allowing them to focus on their core tasks, confident in the knowledge that the smart lamp is watching over residents, and that they will be alerted in the event of a fall.”

The lamp also takes repetitive administrative tasks off carers’ hands, freeing up time for essential duties to be carried out efficiently within the retirement community in Essex. Nobi can, for example, be integrated with devices like smart scales and blood pressure monitors to automatically log health measurements and other important data. Eventually it will help predict when things might go wrong so that preventative action can be taken.

Feedback

The team have been so patient and understanding with my elderly parents. Although we haven’t been through a purchase yet we are hoping that will come. Nathan and his team have been accommodating, kind and very knowledgable throughout our dealings with them so far. Highly recommend.

Christina Sheilds

Having been met by Nathan we followed him onto the estate and was introduced to Jamie. His truly inspirational concept for a community development have left us wanting to be part of it. Loved the bungalow and once inside we able to see for ourselves the high spec and generous size rooms. Every aspect appears to have been thought about carefully and we are looking forward to seeing the 3 bedroom show home.

Mrs Moss

The property exceeded expectations. My wife and I appreciate how generous you were with your time with us. It’s a great, well thought out and designed development for the over 55’s.

Mr & Mrs Francis

Completely blown away with the spaciousness of the layout of the estate and the beautifully presented bungalow. I can’t thank you enough for the all the advice and information the team at the bungalow gave coupled with the help and genuine understanding and help with our particular issues.
